Varunna – Redipuglia

“All in row!” shouted the corporal
Quick pace and then run with eyes open
While the sky collapsed on us
and the flares lit up the day for us
each shot, each flash was a shiver in the back
each volley freezed the nerves
each cannon shot was a slap in the whole face
each blast was a shot straight to the heart

All in row with a quick pace in the mountain trail
Half sank in the snow
Then run with a musket in hands
And we froze against the wind

Arrived at the top the machine gun was waiting for us
And the time of a sigh while the first thirty fell
When I arrived at the top for the first time I saw the fire
And on the ground I had time to watch her star
Arrived at the top the machine gun was waiting for us
And the time of a sigh while the first thirty fell
Arrived at the top I saw her beautiful face
And collapsing in the snow I felt his warmth.

Just because something causes you to have a feeling of aesthetic beauty does not make it a work of art.

A work of art is the selective recreation of reality for the purpose of communicating some aspect of what it means to be human or how we perceive the world. Read more…
